A city of Benjamin, Joshua , about eighteen miles east north east of Jerusalem, and seven miles from the Jordan. It was the first city in Canaan taken by Joshua, who being miraculously aided by the downfall of its walls, totally destroyed it, sparing only Rahab and her household, and pronounced a curse upon the person who should ever rebuild it, which was more than five.

Characters in The Battle of Jericho run the gamut from kind and well-intentioned to deliberately cruel and dangerous. The challenge for the central character, Jericho, is to determine the boundary. The inhabitants of this unfortified village were subsistence farmers. Final destruction of Bronze Age Jericho occurred soon after BCE, consistent with the findings of Finkelstein and Silberman that the village was unoccupied in the thirteenth century, the earliest period consistent with Book of Exodus references to Rammesside pharaohs.

The book has the same strengths and weaknesses as Wisler's earlier novels (e.g., Piper's Ferry, ): the characters remain a bit sketchy, but this fast-paced, action-packed pioneer story has believable, well-researched episodes and, in Jericho, a likable narrator with a consistent voice. (Fiction. ). (Note: Jericho is covered in parts 8–12 & ) The Saga Of Ancient Jericho () “A study of Joshua’s great victory over the ancient city of Jericho” (their page description). Tell es-Sultan (PDF chapter) This chapter is a 30+ page discussion of Jericho’s archaeology, including numerous sketches and old photographs.
